WARNING: criminal activity! never sign up for a contract with that company!!!
After signing up for the 12 month summer special for $58.88 i found out that this service offering is not worth spending a single cent! Instable connections, server connections lost within short connection times… INCREDIBLE POOR compared to competitors.
I asked for a refund…. BUT…. it seems to be their business model to lock users into their pre-paid contracts. They have good reasons for not giving users a chance to test their services for free, as everything is poor and unstable. Since today their OSX application is crashing frequently as well.
My request for refund got answered pointing to their REAL refund policy. There is NO first month money back guarantee as their marketing is attracting people to sign up for their pre-paid contracts!!!
Its bound to GB transfererred – this one I was compliant to – to get eligible fo the refund… BUT…
they state it is bound to 100 connections at maximum, which i over consumed…. not because I was willing to connect so often —- BUT because their unstable service required me to re-connect so often.
Be warned, for me its another life experience: Never spend money on things or services you never tested yourself. Don´t trust test reports of magazines, they are payed from marketing of the vendors. Never pre-pay before having a chance to test.
I will engage my lawyer to fight against such companies like HIDEMYASS.COM is one of the robbing and cheating companies to make money with users trust in something which is not there.
SAVE MONEY AND GO LOOKING SOMEWHERE ELSE… this one is just robbing your money!
I am a little surprised at the poor reviews.
First – the price for a one year subscription of $6.50/month is pretty reasonable.
Two – I have had HMA for over a year and have zero reliability issues,
I use it on both my home PC especially when doing online banking and on my laptop when I travel especially when using a wi-fi connection to the internet.
Three – I have 60Mbps broadband service with TWC a speed test without the VPN typically results in ~55Mbps. Right now as I am typing this I am on the HMA VPN and the speed test I just did showed my download speed to be 48Mbps although I have seen it as high as 53Mbps.
I have HMA VPN on a Linux Mint OS where I use the hma-openvpn.sh shell script. It is pretty easy to install and use. The nice thing about the script is that it has a couple of switches that allow you to find the fastest servers available – very useful. If you do not use these and just randomly pick a server then yeah the speed can be very very slow.
One other observation – I put HMA on a Windows Virtual Machine and noticed that although the GUI is slick the speed guide is not as quick and easy as the linux script IMHO but it does work.
Signed with this site for a month and although i made sure not to autorenew (recurring payments) they ended up charging me the next month, as soon as i realized this i tryed to cancel the auto renewal and got a frustrating message saying
” Your subscription has not been stopped Unfortunately we have been unable to stop your subscription from renewing. Please contact our support team for futher assistance in stopping.”
tried email them with no response, call them no response.
I feel robbed and i haven´t been able to cancel it!
I gave them a terrible review at first because I thought they tried to screw me over. But they came thru with the refund or offered to reactivate my account.
This vpn sucks ass. First off it is way to expensive to not let you download torrent. Second they are really a scam because they if you do download a torrent they cancel your service without a warning. Please use another vpn trust this was a great disappointment I’m so glad I didn’t buy it 6 months. Why even have a vpn service if you can’t download things WTF.
I agree with all the reviews that give this crappy VPN service a 1 star. Even their free web proxy stinks. Their crappy proxy service not only obfuscates but scrambles html and js code introducing all kinds of errors. I tried accessing twitter.com and I couldn’t even log in. I tried accessing twitter.com again without their crappy service and managed to log in (I tried using a proxy to change the trend settings for another location). In summary, their free web proxy sucks, their VPN is slow and often disconnects, shady payment/renewal policies, no privacy / no encryption / internet activity is logged, slow or no tech support, only allows 2 internet connections, no refund with false claim of exceeding bandwidth limit and useless for newgroups/usenet. Well, I think HMA deserves a NO-Star rating. They just suck!! I would be interested in any VPN rating sites that rate them among the Top 3 VPN service providers, because those websites are clearly junk-marketing websites to be avoided.
Have to agree with the rest. They have a very shady cancellation practice. Its takes a few screens of ” Yes i want to cancel” or it stays active. And customer service is the worst out of all the vpns I have used. Not even worth contacting them if you have a problem. Looks elsewhere.
No refund for renew and a very “discret” auto-renew policy !!!
Even by being very careful during the purchasing procedure and by reading all the full Terms&Conditions page. I was not aware that I have an automatic renewal setting activated.
To be aware of that you have to visit their REFUND PAGE, but as renew can’t be refund !!!
Why should I visit the refund page before to be automaticly renew ???
For the service himself I don’t have enough element to compare HydeMyAss with the others VPN provider. Sometimes it was very slow and had to disconnect/reconnect to get a convenable connection speed.
But for me, even if HMA was providing the best connection, the commercial policy deserve a BOYCOTT.
BUYER BEWARE! Be warned that HMA will take your money and run. There are no refunds! Don’t fall for the 30 day money back guarantee BS. They will simply ignore you and they will not provide a real phone number to contact them.
What you will get: (1) Okay servers, but ZERO privacy protection.
(2) Email responses only from support…. Several days later.
(3) ZERO support to resolve issues you may have.
(4) ZERO refund…
You’ve been warned.
Just received an email from HMA.
I paid for their service today. I used 20 IPs. Here is the email:
“Thanks for using our VPN.
It appears that you are enjoying the service so much that you’ve started changing the IP addresses too quickly. This has alerted our system and it has sent you this notification.
We recommend that you change your IP address every 2.5 minutes on 1 device and every 5 minutes when using 2 devices. Also, please make sure to wait at least 30 seconds before attempting to re-connect to the VPN.
If you are using more than 2 connections, maybe you would be interested in our special pricing? This is a great solution for customers who need to connect more devices simultaneously. You can contact our sales team at [email protected] who will be happy to help you.
You can find more about our sessions policy here: http://www.hidemyass.com/legal/vpn-terms/ (check out: Section 3 ‘Our Subscription Plan, Payment and Refunds’)
Please email us within 24 hours of receiving this email and note that repeated violations (causing more than 2 simultaneous sessions) may force us to suspend your account.
Thanks!
Regards,
HMA! Team”
My reply:
This is extremely bad customer relationship management.
Your complain is ridiculous. I am saving the IP history. I did not use more than 20 IPs. Is that too much???
Suspend my account if you want.
You will get my negative comments.
Misleading representation –
IP addresses ARE logged
No encryption beyond their servers
Sounds like a common complaint, Find the privacy statement, if you can, and forget 30 day guarantee, but If you need to hide, don’t try HideMyAss. It is not easy to find, but If you look in the bottom left corner of the support page you might see the TINY link to the BIG privacy statement. Here you will see that not only to they log your IP address, your traffic beyond their servers is not encrypted, which was what I thought I was paying for!
And if you are looking for the “catch” in their 30 day guarantee, don’t expect details, or even an asterisk – just “Buy Now.”
“30 day money back guarantee
Find out how quick our service is before you buy.
Buy now…”
Three weeks in and I wanted to opt out as soon as I realized they misrepresented their services. In response to my request for a refund, I was sent an email stating that I had exceeded the bandwidth limit (good luck finding the catch before hand) so I am out $80 and no encryption. The email came from a NO-Reply email but did include a link to NOWHERE if I cared to reply.
Stay away from this provider and protect both your ass and your wallet.
Do not try Hide my Ass!….I was fooled by their 30 day money back guarantee, which is not 30 days at all.
I gave them a try, and signed up for the year at a lower price thinking I could get my money back if they were no good. I found them to be too slow and most of the time could not get a connection at all. I tried many different servers to get online but all I got was a threatening email saying I had abused the service by switching servers too often. They said my service would be terminated and I would get no refund. (no mention of this on their website)
So naturally I requested an immediate refund after only 7 days use, quoting their 30 day refund policy. Imagine my surprise when they said I did not qualify for a refund as I had …. Quote:used more than 10GB of bandwidth (data transfer – total of upload and download activity through the VPN). I later discovered that this is indeed hidden in their terms and conditions.
I explained to them that just two PCs streaming films or YouTube access would use this data in one day, so hardly constitutes a fair trial period…therefore their small print ensures that no customer would EVER be eligible for a refund! I would not go so far as to call this a scam, but is it fair?
This is misleading advertising at its worst …. although as they pointed out to me, its perfectly legal. Yes it might be legal?..but its morally wrong to take advantage of people like this and take their money knowing the customer has no hope of ever claiming a refund.
